Regular massage sessions provide significate improvement beyond immediate relaxation. Regular massage therapy helps to boost your immune system by affecting circulaton and increasing lymphatic drainage. This helps with the removal of metabolic waste products that can cause disease. Numerous scientific studies show positve results from regular massage. In one study by Gail Ironson, MD., HIV positive men were given 45 minute massages five days a week for a month. They showed an increase in natural killer cells which are the first line of defense of the immune system against viral and cancer cells. Seritonin levels also increased in these men. People with cancer who received regular massage during cancer treatment reported less anxiety, pain and fatigue, which as a result, supports a healthy immune system. Chi Nei Tsang, Chinese abdominal massage, also helps to boost the immune system because it addresses all the systems of the body. CNT helps to detox the body of physical as well as emotional stress from the internal organs helping the organs function better. CNT combines massage, breathwork and chi kung principles. When addressing the immune system we need to strive to restore harmony and a feeling of wholeness. It is well known that stress takes a toll on the immune system, but what is not as commonly known is that true feelings of compassion help boost the immune system. There was a Harvard study that showed groups of people a video of Mother Theresa, something that brought up true feelings of compassion in their hearts, and then they took their blood samples to test for an immune response. The test showed a remarkable increase in their immune system that increased their bodies defenses for up to a whole week. All from having true feelings of compassion.
