Easing Jaw Tension

News >>

Stress may seem unavoidable these days, but there are ways to ease the effects of stress so that you can get out of the cycle of pain and discomfort.

So many people suffer from pain and tension in their TMJ, and neck, as well as tension headaches upon rising in the morning.  These may be symptoms from clenching your teeth while you sleep.

There are several ways to address this issue.  Since the main reason for clenching your teeth stems from stress, it makes sense to reduce stress in your life by incorporating stress reduction techniques such as guided imagery (I recommend Belleruth Naperstek's guided imagery CDs), yoga, chi nei tsang, flower essences, craniosacral therapy, essential oils, massage and meditation.

The following articles are dedicated to educating you about your options to stop the cycle of stress and discomfort.

CranioSacral Therapy

craniosacral
Craniosacral therapy is based on the theory that the bones of the skull are moved in small amounts by the flow of the cerebral spinal fluid underneath. When there is jaw tension (often stress-related), the jaw acts like a vice cranking down on the cranial bones' ability to move properly. This impedes the normal functioning of both the peripheral and the central nervous system. As a result, many symptoms may arise, such as headaches, neck pain, jaw pain, numbness, and anxiety.

Craniosacral therapy is a gentle and extremely relaxing way of releasing tension and pain held within the body.

Flower Essences

Flower Essences
Flower Essences are vibrational formulas which are taken orally in the form of drops or sprays.  They may also be applied topically to areas of discomfort.  Flower Essences are used to treat emotional and physical stress held within the body.

At Nurturance, I can combine up to seven flower essences in a single personalized formula.  For instance, if you have trouble falling asleep because of an obsessive mind I may add the flower essence White Chestnut.  Or if you are are fearful, Mimulus or Aspen may be appropriate.  If anger is at the root of your stress Holly or Willow may be for you.  Often times Pine and Holly are used for tension held in the jaw area.  We have over 50 essences to choose from and after talking to you about your concerns I can test you for the appropriate essences and combine them into your own personal formula.

Aroma Siez
aroma siezI recently gave a raindrop treatment to a dentist who uses the same oils in his practice and reported that the essential oils applied to the jaw with a warm compress relieves the problem of trigemimal neuralgia in his patients.

Aroma Siez  is a wonderful pure essential oil blend that is used in the raindrop technique.  This blend may help relax, calm, and relieve tight, sore, tired and aching muscles. It may also help relieve headaches and charley horses.  It smells unbelievably refreshing.  The oils that make up this blend are Basil, Cypress, Marjoram, Lavender, and peppermint.

Testimonial:
"To reduce the amount I clench my jaw during sleep, each night before bed I rub Aroma Siez on my jaw line and behind my ears.  Oh, it feels so good!"Dru Matthews
